The Uwell Caliburn series has been around for several years at this point and has grown to include a wide variety of devices in almost every conceivable size and shape. Just about every good vape shop has more than one Uwell Caliburn available, which means that you’re very likely to end up buying one of these devices if you’re shopping for your first vape. Uwell Caliburn vapes are designed for maximum simplicity, but you may still find it helpful to read a quick overview before you get started. Knowing how to fill your pod is one of the key steps on the road to becoming an expert.
So, how do you fill a Uwell Caliburn vape? In this guide, we’ll walk you through it. We’ll also discuss some of the common pitfalls to avoid and explain what you should do if you encounter a problem.
How to Fill the Uwell Caliburn Pod
There are two types of pods available for Uwell Caliburn devices: top filling and side filling.
- If your pod is all the same color and has a silicone cover on the side, you have a side-filling pod.
- If the body and mouthpiece of your pod are different colors – and you can’t see a silicone cover on the side – you have a top-filling pod.
Here’s how to fill your Caliburn pod.
- If you have a side-filling pod, remove the pod from your device and use your fingernail to open the silicone cover. Place the tip of your e-liquid bottle in the filling hole and squeeze gently until the pod is nearly full. Replace the plug and make sure that it’s pushed all the way in.
- If you have a top-filling pod, grasp the mouthpiece with your finger and thumb and wiggle it gently until it comes off. Place the tip of your e-liquid bottle in the filling hole, which has a red ring around it. Squeeze gently until the pod is nearly full. Replace the mouthpiece and push it down until it clicks into place.
Fill Your Pod Carefully to Avoid Leaks and Burnt Hits
Filling a Uwell Caliburn pod is definitely a simple process, but it’s still possible to encounter problems with your device if you don’t do it properly. Here’s a list of the pitfalls that you need to avoid when you fill your Caliburn pod.
- Don’t overfill the pod. The Caliburn pod uses a silicone plug to seal the filling port; the plug is inside the mouthpiece if you have a top-filling pod. The plug needs a bit of room. If you overfill the pod, it’ll leak when you replace the plug.
- Don’t put e-liquid in the center air channel. It’s possible to make this mistake if you’re using a top-filling pod – and if you do it, your pod will leak. Remember that the filling hole is red.
- Wait 10 minutes before vaping when you’re using a new pod or coil. If you start vaping before the wick is completely wet, you’ll get a burnt hit. If the coil overheats severely, the dry hit could even burn the coil’s wick. If that happens, the coil’s flavor will be permanently ruined.
- If you’re using a device from the Caliburn G series with a replaceable coil, doublecheck to confirm that the coil is pushed all the way in before filling the pod. A Caliburn G coil has a straight edge on its base, so you can only push it in fully if it’s correctly aligned. If the alignment is incorrect, the pod will leak.
- Refill the pod before it’s empty. Some Caliburn pods have windows with “MIN” lines marked on them. If you allow the e-liquid to get below that line, the wick won’t work efficiently and could burn.
What to Do if Your Uwell Caliburn Pod Leaks
If you fill your Caliburn pod incorrectly, the most likely consequence is that the pod will leak. You want to avoid that situation if possible. That’s partially because leaks are messy and partially because leaked e-liquid could contaminate your device’s internal electronics and cause damage.
If your Caliburn pod leaks, follow these steps to clean it up.
- Remove the pod from the device. Use a paper towel to dry the pod and the chamber at the top of the Caliburn.
- Turn the Caliburn device upside down while the pod is still removed and hold a paper towel over the pod chamber. Place your mouth over the device’s air intake hole and blow hard. Is the paper towel damp? If so, e-liquid is in the device’s airflow system. Keep blowing until a paper towel comes out dry.
- Use a clean paper towel to remove all remaining e-liquid from the device’s chamber.
- Check the device to see if it works. If it does, you’re all set. If not, it’s possible that the e-liquid has contaminated the device’s internal electronics. Try sealing your Caliburn with some desiccant in a plastic bag for a couple of days and see if that revives it.
Here’s how to prevent your Caliburn pods from leaking in the future.
- Don’t overfill your pod. If there’s too much e-liquid in the pod, it’ll leak when you replace the stopper or mouthpiece.
- Make sure the coil is installed properly if you’re using a Caliburn device with replaceable coils. Before filling your pod, doublecheck the coil to confirm that it’s pushed all the way in. The flat edge on the base of the coil needs to align with the flat edge of the opening on the bottom of the pod.
- Make sure that the plug or mouthpiece is fully seated after filling the pod. If the filling hole isn’t completely closed, the pod can’t form an internal vacuum. The coil will flood, and e-liquid will escape through the pod’s air intake hole.
- Don’t use too much air pressure when puffing on your Caliburn. If you want to get bigger clouds, you can either take longer puffs or replace your pod or coil with one that has a lower resistance. If you hear a gurgling sound when vaping, it means that you’re drawing e-liquid into the pod’s air tube. Reduce the air pressure.
